‘Use vote as weapon’ Priyanka Gandhi demand voters in her inaugural speech for Lok Sabha polls

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched her first ever political rally after an official appointment with a scorching attack on the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party government in an attempt to incite the public debate ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in PM Modi bastion Gujarat.

She accused that the ruling party is practising politics of hatred and divided people on communal line. Targeting the PM in his own state Gandhi said that the BJP is playing with emotions of people for political gains.

This election, she told a gathering at the anniversary of the Dandi March in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat, is in no way less than the struggle for Independence.

“This struggle is in no way less than the struggle for freedom… freedom from hatred”

“There is no bigger patriotism than being an aware citizen, your awareness is a weapon, your vote is a weapon. It is a weapon that will not hurt or harm anyone. It is a weapon that will strengthen you,” said the Congress leader, who recently joined active politics as general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh East. Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were also present at the event.

Earlier in the day, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) was held to commemorate the 89th anniversary of Dandi March or ‘Salt Satyagraha’ and to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. This was the first meeting of CWC in Gujarat since 1961. The meeting was attended by top leaders including former PM Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress in Gandhinagar, Gujarat: This country is made on the foundations of love, harmony & brotherhood. Today whatever is happening in the country is very sad. You have to think very hard what you are about to choose. You should not vote on unimportant issues.

Those who say big things and promise you the moon. Ask them where are the 2 crore jobs they promised. Ask them where are the 15 lakhs
Gandhi said the main issues on which the elections would be fought are women security, employment, and agrarian crisis. “Issues which should be raised must comprise as to what is most important for you and how can you move forward. How will the youth get jobs, how will women feel safe, what will be done for farmers. These are the issues for elections,” she said.

Priyanka Gandhi, Congress general secretary, in-charge of UP East will launch a poll campaign in UP from March 14. Priyanka, who was appointed the general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East on January 23, has held a series of meetings with party workers but had so far not addressed any public gathering. Till now, her public presence was limited to the roadshow she held along with Rahul Gandhi on February 11 in Lucknow.

Fight of Ideologies: Congres President Rahul Gandhi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi while addressing the public meeting in Gandhinagar said that “after years, CWC meeting has taken place in Gujarat. We conducted the meeting here because there’s a fight between two ideologies in the country and in Gujarat you will find both the ideologies.”
“First time in history, 4 Supreme Court judges went to press and said they are not allowed to work. Generally, people go to Supreme Court for justice but in today’s Hindustan, SC judges are going to public and asking for justice”, pointed the Congress chief on the infamous press brief by 4 SC judges.
Our institutions are being attacked, hatred is being spread everywhere. There can be a no bigger thing than guarding the country and moving ahead together, he added.

On the implementation of Minimum Income Guarantee, he remarked, “We have decided in 2019, we will do something historic. If they can give all the money to rich, we can give money to the poor. I want to assure everyone, we will form the government in 2019 and will implement the minimum income guarantee.

Taking a dig at Modi government’s bold step like demonetisation and GST, Rahul Gandhi accused BJP of dividing India into the powerful and the poor.

Meanwhile, Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel will also join the Congress in the presence on Rahul Gandhi. He is likely to contest from Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat.
